Stillwater, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Cowboy Basketball program led the nation in attendance increase this season, averaging 6,137 more fans per game this year than during the 1999-2000 season, according to a published report in the June 4 edition of the NCAA News.
Memphis was second with an increase of 5,136 fans per contest.
Twenty-six Division I teams saw an increase in attendance of more than 1,000 fans per game from the previous year. The Cowboys led the way with the help of 27 wins and a massive renovation of 63-year-old Gallagher-Iba Arena that doubled its seating capacity.
Four other schools with a 2,000-or-more increase were Alabama with 2,187, Baylor, up 2,131 fans per game, Seton Hall (up 2,129) and Wyoming (2,073).
Oklahoma State's average home attendance of 12,044 ranked 26th nationally, and third in the Big 12 behind Kansas (ranked 10th nationally at 16,179) and Iowa State (21st at 12,360).
