STILLWATER, Okla. Brooks Thompson, former Oklahoma State and National Basketball Association standout, has been named Director of Basketball Operations at OSU, according to Head Coach Eddie Sutton.
Thompson returns to OSU where he played for Coach Sutton in 1993 and 1994. He averaged nearly 16 points a game over a two-year OSU career and was All-Big Eight after the '94 season.
"I'm delighted to be able to bring Brooks Thompson back to our staff,' Coach Sutton said. "He has a love for Oklahoma State as well as great knowledge of the game and tremendous organizational skills.
Following his collegiate playing career, Thompson was a first-round draft pick of the Orlando Magic. He spent more than four seasons in the NBA with Orlando, Denver, Phoenix and the New York Knicks before a back injury forced him into retirement.
Thompson returned to OSU in 1998 as a volunteer assistant before spending one season as head coach at Metro Christian in Tulsa. Last season, he was an assistant coach at Southeastern Louisiana in Hammond, La.
"It's exciting for my wife and me to come back to our alma mater,' Thompson said. ?This is a great opportunity, not only to work for Coach Sutton but to work at a place that means so much to me. It?s exciting to see the tremendous new facility and we?re just looking forward to being associated with Coach Sutton and the OSU basketball program.'
Thompson is married to the former Michelle Ryan, a softball standout at OSU from 1996-98. They have one daughter, Ryan Michelle.
