STILLWATER, Okla.- Two members of the Oklahoma State men's tennis squad, Fran Krepelka and Jiri Jezek, have been named to the 2001 Verizon Academic All-District VI Spring At-Large Team selected by the College Sports Information DIrectors of America.
Krepelka, a junior from Kosice, Slovakia, was one of 10 athletes to be selected to the first team after earning a 4.0 grade point average in computer science. On the court, he finished the season with a 16-4 singles record and an 11-11 mark in doubles action.
For his athletic achievements, Krepelka was named to the 2001 All-Big 12 squad and was the Big 12 champion at No. 4 singles. Academically, he was chosen as a first-team academic all-conference pick.
Earning second team honors for the Cowboys was Jezek, a native of Pribram, Czech Republic. The sophomore also earned a 4.0 GPA in computer science and was a member of the Academic All-Big 12 first team as well.
Jezek compiled a 14-7 singles record to capture the Big 12 title at No. 5 singles. In doubles play, he tallied a 9-13 record.
"This honor just goes to show how hard these guys work in the classroom and on the court," Cowboy assistant coach Brad Chiller said. "I am very pleased to see that they are being recognized for their all-around accomplishments."
