STILLWATER, Okla. - Hawaii's Stacey Porter hit a two-run home run over the centerfield fence to lead off the eighth inning, propelling the Rainbow Wahine to a 5-4 win over the Oklahoma State Cowgirls here Wednesday night at Cowgirl Stadium.
Hawaii took an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first on just one hit. All three runs scored were unearned for starter Tiffany Paper as three errors were committed in the inning. The only hit was a two-run double by designated player April Crowell, one of her two hits on the evening.
Everything was scoreless until the bottom of the sixth when, with two outs, catcher Ryan Realmuto doubled down the leftfield line. First baseman Stephanie Hodges followed that with a base hit through the right side into left field, plating Realmuto.
OSU added two more in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and send it into extra innings. Jade Lindly, a freshman from Jay, Okla., led off with a home run out to left field. After a walk by pinch hitter Nicci Quiroz, leadoff hitter Danielle Thomas hit a triple just past the outstretched glove of leftfielder Stacie Hirano. UH's Felicity Witt came on in relief of starter Desiree Duran, and struck out the next two batters to end the inning.
Using the international tiebreaker rule, Hawaii placed a runner on second base, who quickly scored on Porter's home run. It was her second home run of the season.
Senior Amanda Hayes was placed on second for Oklahoma State and, after two strikeouts, Angela Veronesi hit her first extra-base hit of the season, a double down the leftfield line, scoring Hayes. However, Lindly struck out to end the game.
Oklahoma State (22-21 overall, 6-8 Big 12) travels to College Station, Texas, this weekend for a Big 12 Conference matchup with the Texas A&M Aggies (30-15, 7-9). Games are set for 1 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
