STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's 43rd-ranked men's tennis team defeated the 54th-ranked Kansas Jayhawks, 4-3, on Saturday at the DeBois Center. The win improves the Cowboys record to 12-7 overall and 4-3 in the Big 12.
OSU fell behind early after losing 2-of-3 doubles matches. The lone doubles victory came from senior Chris Bates and junior Fran Krepelka. The duo pounded Rodrigo Echagaray and Alex Barragan, 8-3, at the No. 2 doubles position.
The Cowboys first team point came from Bates when he defeated Echagaray in straight sets, 7-6,6-3, at the No. 2 singles position.
Sophomore Eru Lyndon clinched the victory for OSU by beating Pete Stroer at the No. 4 singles position, 7-6,7-6, with both sets decided by a tie-breaker.
Krepelka's nine-match winning streak was snapped after losing a close match to Quentin Blakeney, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 3 singles position.
Junior Matt Prenice won his fourth straight match by defeating Eleazar Magallan, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, at the No. 1 singles position. Sophomore Jiri Jezek also won his fourth straight match after beating Barragan in straight sets, 7-5, 6-2, at the No. 5 singles position.
OSU will return to action when they host Tulsa on Tuesday at 2 p.m. at the DeBois Tennis Center.
