STILLWATER, Okla. - Cheyne Gadson, a 6-3, 210-pound point guard from Jamaica, N.Y., has signed a letter of intent with the Oklahoma State men's basketball program.
"Cheyne is a very skilled player who we are very happy to have signed," said assistant coach Glynn Cyprien. "He is a strong, mature player who passes well and can score when needed. Cheyne should come in and challenge for playing time immediately."
Gadson, a 6-3, 210-pound point guard from Jamaica, N.Y., averaged 22 points, 5.7 assists and 4.5 rebounds per game for Westchester Community College last season. He was recently named a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Division I honorable mention All-American after leading WCC to an 18-14 record and the Region XV championship.
"Cheyne is an all-around good athlete who was an effective point/combo guard for us this season," said Westchester coach Winston Nicholas. "His strength is getting to the basket and he also has an excellent mid-range game. Cheyne is an even better person than he is a player and I think he is a heck of a player."
Gadson played two seasons of high school basketball at Jamaica High and one season at Faith Christian Academy in New York. He averaged 19 points, four assists and three steals a game in his final season at Jamaica High, earning first-team all-league honors by the New York Daily News in 1998.
