Oklahoma State's men's tennis team dropped five-of-six singles matches and all three doubles matches before falling to Texas, 6-1, Saturday at the DeBois Tennis Center.
"That is why they are ranked as high as they are," head coach James Wadley said. "Texas is a good quality team and they played really well."
The Cowboys lone victory came at the No. 4 spot when junior Fran Krepelka defeated Ron Kloppert, 6-4, 6-7, 6-2, improving his record to 8-2.
"We lost all the close matches. We lost two out of three three-setters and that was the difference in the match," Wadley said. "The doubles were a little tight at two and three but they won them. I was happy with the way our guys faught and stayed in it. They tried their hardest but it just didn't happen for us today."
Oklahoma State's 26th-ranked tandem of junior Matt Prentice and sophomore Eru Lyndon led 2-1, but Texas' 35th-ranked duo of Jorge Haro and Jose Zarhi stormed back to win the match, 8-3, giving Texas the first win.
Texas went on to sweep the doubles giving them the early 1-0 lead.
The 14th-ranked Longhorns recorded the second and third team point as Jorge Haro and Francoise Cassette defeated senior Chris Bates and freshman Anthony Zafiris at the Nos. 3 and 6 positions, respectively.
The Longhorns clinched the win as 30th-ranked Jean Simon defeated 40th-ranked Matt Prentice, 7-6 (7-2), 7-6 (7-3), at the No. 1 position.
The Cowboys will return to action on Sunday when they host No. 4-ranked Texas A&M at the DeBois Tennis Center at 1 p.m.
