Cowgirl Golf Wins Hawaiian Tournament

Waimanalo, Hawaii - Oklahoma State shot a final-round 294, propeling the Cowgirls to the team title of the Dr. Donnis Thompson Rainbow Wahine Invitational here Thursday afternoon, outshooting second-ranked Arizona by three strokes. Sophomore Christi Cano finished second individually, just one stroke behind individual medalist Natalie Gulbis of Arizona.
The second-place finish tied Cano's top career finish. The San Antonio, Texas, native also finished second at last year's Shootout at the Legends. Her three-round score of 217 also tied her career best.
Fellow sophomore Linda Wessberg turned in the best round of the day, a three-under 69 that moved her 22nd place after two rounds to a sixth-place finish. Junior Emma Zackrisson also finished in the top 10, carding a 224 for the tournament, tying her for eighth.
The Cowgirls won despite sub-par play by the senior, Maria Bod?n, who leads the Big 12 in strokes per round. Bod?n finished 24th, despite a 79 in the first round. She followed that up with a pair of 76s to finish at 231.
OSU defeated two teams that were ranked ahead of the Cowgirls entering the tournament. Arizona was the second-ranked team in the country in both the MasterCard Collegiate Golf rankings and GolfWorld Magazine, while LSU was listed at No. 13. Oklahoma State was ranked 15th and 14th, respectively, prior to the tournament.
Oklahoma State will take a week off before returning to action in the Bryan National Collegiate Tournament, April 6-8, in Greensboro, N.C.
