Oklahoma State's men's tennis team won five-of-six singles matches en route to a 6-1 victory over Texas Tech on Friday in Lubbock, Texas.
The 67th-ranked Red Raiders swept the doubles matches from the Cowboys to notch the doubles team point, however, the 36th-ranked Cowboys bounced back from the deficit to win five of the six singles matches to record their second Big 12 victory this year.
"(Tech) jumped on us in doubles and with these quick courts, we didn't adjust very well," head coach James Wadley said. "We didn't even come close in any f the doubles and before the singles started I didn't really say much because there wasn't anything we could do about it at that point."
The Cowboys were led by junior Matt Prentice. Prentice, ranked No. 41 in the country, lost the first set before storming back to defeat Royce Ramey at the No. 1 singles position in three sets.
Junior Fran Krepelka and sophomore Jiri Jezek each won in straight sets, while junior Eru Lyndon and freshman Anthony Zafiris needed three sets to secure the final team points for the Cowboys.
The Cowboys only set back was at the No. 2 spot, where senior Chris Bates fell in three sets to Borut Martincevic.
"We could have easily folded our tents being away from home, but the kids really battled," Wadley said. "But if we come out like we did (Friday) against Baylor, we aren't going to be able to come back."
The Cowboys are now 8-4 and 2-0 in Big 12 play, and will travel to Waco, Texas, to take on the No. 43 Baylor Bears on Sunday.
