COWGIRLS HOST UNLV IN SECOND ROUND OF WNIT
Oklahoma State (15-14) will host the UNLV Lady Rebels (19-9) in the second round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament on Sunday, March 18, at 2 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena. The Cowgirls are coming off a 79-67 win over the North Texas Lady Eagles Friday night in GIA, while UNLV is fresh off a 59-56 victory over Loyola Marymount in Los Angeles on Thursday night. OSU is 0-3 all-time vs. the Lady Rebels, the last game being played in 1993. All three games in the series have been played in Las Vegas, and all three have been in the Halterman era.
COMING UP
The winner of the OSU-UNLV game will play the winner of the BYU-Hawaii contest in the quarterfinals of the Women's NIT. Those two teams play Monday night at 11 p.m. CST in Honolulu. Oklahoma State is 2-1 all-time vs. Brigham Young and 1-0 all-time vs. Hawaii. Please see the enclosed bracket for the remainder of the games being played.
LAST TIME OUT
Oklahoma State had three players off the bench score in double figures and limit the North Texas Lady Eagles to just 36.1 percent shooting as the Cowgirls defeated UNT, 79-67, Friday night in the first round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament. Chantoya Hawkins and Trisha Skibbe each scored 15 points off the bench while Kara Faulk chipped in 11 off the bench for OSU. Terrisha Osborn scored 12 points for OSU, going 10-of-12 from the line and leading the team with eight rebounds. Although North Texas trailed by seven early in the first half, the Lady Eagles fought back and tied the game six times before falling behind for good at the 3:36 mark of the period on a short jumper by Skibbe. Oklahoma State shot 46.8 percent from the floor, including 63.8 percent (7-of-11) from behind the three-point arc. OSU also connected on 28-of-39 free throws, or 71.8 percent, compared to 12-of-15 for the Lady Eagles. ?We are glad that we are still playing,? said Hawkins. ?We wanted to make it into the NCAA Tournament. However, we are lucky we made it into the WNIT. It is a good thing for us to have more games under our belt, and next year we will be more experienced.?
OSU-UNLV SERIES
A short one it is as these two teams have played only three times in the history of women's basketball, with UNLV holding a 3-0 edge in the series. All three games have been played in Las Vegas, the last being in December of 1993.
COWGIRLS IN THE RPI
Oklahoma State is ranked 58th in the Ratings Percentage Index published by College Basketball News on March 16. The Cowgirls' schedule-strength rank (24th) is the toughest of all opponents in the postseason Women's NIT. Its obvious that the western portion of the bracket is the tougher half, with five of the top six teams remaining in the West.
MISCELLANEOUS NOTES
OSU LOOKS TO EXTEND HOME NON-CONFERENCE WINNING STREAK
