Cowgirls Take On Missouri Wednesday Night

COWGIRLS FACE MISSOURI TIGERS
Oklahoma State (13-11 overall, 5-8 Big 12) will travel to Columbia, Mo., this week for a midweek game with the Missouri Tigers (16-8, 7-6). Game time on Wednesday is set for 7 p.m. The Cowgirls are coming off a 73-69 overtime loss at the hands of the Texas Longhorns Saturday night in Gallagher-Iba Arena, while Mizzou is coming off a 97-81 loss to the Baylor Bears in Waco Saturday. The Tigers lead the all-time series with Oklahoma State, 21-18, including an 11-5 mark in Columbia.
COMING UP
Oklahoma State will travel to Norman, Okla., on Saturday, Feb. 24, for the second edition of Bedlam basketball action as the Cowgirls face the Sooners (21-4, 12-1) for the second time in two weeks. Game time is set for 7 p.m. OSU will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 28, as the Cowgirls host Nebraska (11-15, 3-10) at 8:30 p.m. Please note the time change for that game as the Cowboys' game with Baylor has been moved to 6 p.m. on Wednesday and the women will play as part of a doubleheader with the men.
LAST TIME OUT
Jessica Bates scored a game-high 22 points, but 18th-ranked Texas outscored the Cowgirls, 10-6, in overtime as the Longhorns defeated OSU, 73-69, Saturday night in Gallagher-Iba Arena. Texas began the game ahead, 7-0, before OSU finally scored on a Trisha Skibbe jumper at the 15:48 mark. The Cowgirls tied the game at 10 with 11:24 remaining in the first period, and took their biggest lead of the half at 35-28 and took that score into the lockerroom. OSU led the entire second half until the 4:43 mark, when two free throws by UT's Tracy Cook tied teh game at 53-53. The Cowgirls expanded their lead back to five with 1:21 to go, but Kaira White scored the final five points, two free throws and a trey with 29 seconds remaining tied the score and sent the game into OT. Oklahoma State never trailed from the 1:48 mark of the first half until 1:11 into the overtime period. There were three ties in the extra period before UT scored the final four points of the game. Cowgirl Kara Faulk scored 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds for her second-consecutive double-double and fifth of the season. Sophomore Chantoya Hawkins scored 11 points, including 7-of-7 from the line, pulled down eight boards and dished out five assists. She also had four steals. Jessica Spinner chipped in 15 points on 5-of-8 shooting from the floor. Texas' Stacy Stephens scored a team-high 15 points and also grabbed nine rebounds. White and Tracy Cook each scored 14, pacing the Longhorns.
FAULK NAMED BIG 12 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
For the first time this season, a Cowgirl was named the Big 12 Conference's Player of the Week. Kara Faulk, a junior from Sapulpa, Okla., earned the honor for the week ending Feb. 4. In two games vs. Baylor and Kansas State, she averaged 21 points and 10.5 rebounds in two wins for the Cowgirls. She also shot 48.3 percent from the floor and 84.6 percent from the free-throw line. She connected on 3-of-8 treys.
MORE ON MISSOURI
Missouri is 16-8 overall this season and 7-6 in Big 12 Conference action. The Tigers are currently a three-way tie for fifth place in the league standings with Texas and Baylor. Mizzou is led on the hardcourt by Amanda Lassiter, who is averaging 20 points and 6.6 rebounds per game. Two other Tigers, Marlena Williams and Tracy Franklin, are also averaging double figures in scoring with 12.9 and 10, respectively. MU is coached by Cindy Stein, in her third season with the Tigers. She has an all-time record of 47-35.
OSU-MU SERIES
Oklahoma State trails in the all-time series with Missouri, 18-21, and the Tigers also lead the series in Columbia, 11-5. Mizzou has won the last two meetings, including a 73-62 victory in the Hearnes Center two years ago. OSU has won six of the last nine meetings, and 13 of the last 20.

COWGIRL ATTENDANCE RANKS 40th NATIONALLY
Oklahoma State has had 15,632 fans come through the turnstiles in the first seven games in Gallagher-Iba Arena, an average of 2,233 fans per game. It was bolstered mostly by a showing of 5,092 fans at the Oklahoma game on Feb. 10. That total was the third-most in Gallagher-Iba Arena history for a women's basketball game, and the fifth-most to ever watch a women's bedlam game in the state of Oklahoma. The average this season ranks OSU 40th nationally in unofficial attendance this season. Texas Tech is the Big 12 leader and ranks second nationally with 12,676 fans per contest. Iowa State is second in the league and fourth nationally at 11,268.
COWGIRLS IN THE RPI
Oklahoma State is ranked 40th in the Ratings Percentage Index published by College Basketball News on Feb. 18. The Cowgirls' schedule-strength rank (11th) is the third-toughest in the league behind Oklahoma (seventh) and Nebraska (ninth).
COACH DICK HALTERMAN
Dick Halterman is entering his 18th season as the head coach for the Oklahoma State Cowgirls, and brings with him a 314-214 career mark at OSU. Halterman has guided the Cowgirls to eight postseason appearances in the last 12 years, including seven NCAA Tournament appearances (last in 1996) and one Women's NIT appearance (1998). Under Halterman, 13 Cowgirls have been named first-team all-conference, while 31 student-athletes have achieved first-team academic all-conference status. He is a two-time conference Coach of the Year, and was the District V Coach of the Year in 1991. Halterman has taken two conference All-Star teams abroad, including August of 1999, when he led the Big 12 All-Stars on a tour of Finland and Sweden. That team finished with a 5-1 record. COWGIRL BASKETBALL ON THE AIR
Once again during the 2000-01 season, Oklahoma State's basketball games will be broadcast live on KGFY-105.5 FM in Stillwater. Kevin Gum, in his 11th season with the Cowgirl broadcast, will handle play-by-play duties, while Casey Kendrick, in his sixth season on the air, will provide color analysis. For the first time, Cowgirl Basketball will be part of the OSU Radio Network. Member stations will provide statewide broadcasts of as many as 10 games throughout the season. Fans unable to pick up the over-the-air broadcast will be able to listen to the games via the internet at www.okstate.com. Broadcasts will begin 15 minutes prior to tipoff with pregame analysis, as well as interviews with Coach Halterman and various Cowgirl players.
