Cowgirls Host Texas On Saturday

COWGIRLS HOST TEXAS LONGHORNS
Oklahoma State (13-10 overall, 5-7 Big 12) will host the Texas Longhorns (18-8, 6-6) on Saturday, Feb. 17, at 7 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena. The game will follow the men's contest between OSU and Texas at noon. The Longhorns are ranked 18th by both the Associated Press and the USA Today/ ESPN Coaches poll. Oklahoma State is coming off an 83-63 win over the Texas A&M Aggies in College Station, Texas, Tuesday night, while Texas is coming off an 80-75 loss at the hands of the Baylor Bears Wednesday night in Austin.
COMING UP
Oklahoma State will travel to Columbia, Mo., next week for a midweek game with the Missouri Tigers (16-7, 7-5) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Oklahoma State will then travel to Norman, Okla., on Saturday, Feb. 24, for the second edition of Bedlam basketball action as the Cowgirls face the Sooners (20-4, 11-1) for the second time in two weeks. Game time is set for 7 p.m. OSU will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday, Feb. 28, as the Cowgirls host Nebraska (10-15, 2-10) at 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Kara Faulk scored a team-high 21 points and pulled down 14 rebounds as the Cowgirls defeated the Texas A&M Aggies, 83-63, Tuesday night in College Station, Texas. It was Faulk's fourth double-double of the season as she scored all 21 points in the second half. Jaynetta Saunders, the Big 12's leading scorer, put 30 points on the scoreboard for A&M. However, OSU stopped the rest of the team, allowing no other Aggie to score in double figures. Neither team led by more than six points in the first half, and after trailing, 30-24, with 2:18 remaining, A&M went on a 7-0 run to take a 31-30 lead into the lockerroom. OSU took the lead at the 17:33 mark of the second half and never trailed again. A&M tied the score once at the 13:19 mark at 42-42, but the Cowgirls scored 41 points down the stretch for the win. The Oklahoma State bench outscored Texas A&M's bench, 34-10. OSU shot 44.1 percent for the game, including 50 percent (18-of-36) in the second half. Meanwhile, the Cowgirls limited A&M to just 37 percent shooting in the game, including 31 percent (13-of-42) in the final period. OSU finished with four players in double figures. Jessica Bates scored 16 points off the bench, while Chantoya Hawkins chipped in 10 points and dished out seven assists. Shelby Hutchens scored 10 points and pulled down seven boards.
FAULK NAMED BIG 12 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
For the first time this season, a Cowgirl was named the Big 12 Conference's Player of the Week. Kara Faulk, a junior from Sapulpa, Okla., earned the honor for the week ending Feb. 4. In two games vs. Baylor and Kansas State, she averaged 21 points and 10.5 rebounds in two wins for the Cowgirls. She also shot 48.3 percent from the floor and 84.6 percent from the free-throw line. She connected on 3-of-8 treys.

Texas is 18-8 overall this season and 6-6 in Big 12 Conference action. The Longhorns are ranked 18th in both the AP poll and the USA Today/ ESPN Coaches poll. UT is 4-2 at home in league games and 2-4 in away conference contests. They are led by freshman Stacy Stephens, who is averaging 10.8 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. Senior JoRuth Woods is also averaging double figures with 10.5 ppg. Sophomore Tai Dillard is averaging 10.4 points per contest. Texas is coached by Jody Conradt, the winningest coach in women's basketball hstory. She is 764-243 in 31-plus years of coaching, and 647-181 in her 25th season at Texas.
MISCELLANEOUS NOTES
COWGIRL ATTENDANCE RANKS 40th NATIONALLY
Oklahoma State has had 15,632 fans come through the turnstiles in the first seven games in Gallagher-Iba Arena, an average of 2,233 fans per game. It was bolstered mostly by a showing of 5,092 fans at the Oklahoma game on Feb. 10. That total was the third-most in Gallagher-Iba Arena history for a women's basketball game, and the fifth-most to ever watch a women's bedlam game in the state of Oklahoma. The average this season ranks OSU 40th nationally in unofficial attendance this season. Texas Tech is the Big 12 leader and ranks second nationally with 12,676 fans per contest. Iowa State is second in the league and fourth nationally at 11,268.
COWGIRLS IN THE RPI
Oklahoma State is ranked 38th in the Ratings Percentage Index published by College Basketball News on Feb. 15. The Cowgirls' schedule-strength rank (10th) is the second-toughest in the league behind Nebraska (seventh), and just ahead of Oklahoma (11th), Iowa State (15th) and Texas (18th).
COACH DICK HALTERMAN
Dick Halterman is entering his 18th season as the head coach for the Oklahoma State Cowgirls, and brings with him a 314-213 career mark at OSU. Halterman has guided the Cowgirls to eight postseason appearances in the last 12 years, including seven NCAA Tournament appearances (last in 1996) and one Women's NIT appearance (1998). Under Halterman, 13 Cowgirls have been named first-team all-conference, while 31 student-athletes have achieved first-team academic all-conference status. He is a two-time conference Coach of the Year, and was the District V Coach of the Year in 1991. Halterman has taken two conference All-Star teams abroad, including August of 1999, when he led the Big 12 All-Stars on a tour of Finland and Sweden. That team finished with a 5-1 record. COWGIRL BASKETBALL ON THE AIR
Once again during the 2000-01 season, Oklahoma State's basketball games will be broadcast live on KGFY-105.5 FM in Stillwater. Kevin Gum, in his 11th season with the Cowgirl broadcast, will handle play-by-play duties, while Casey Kendrick, in his sixth season on the air, will provide color analysis. For the first time, Cowgirl Basketball will be part of the OSU Radio Network. Member stations will provide statewide broadcasts of as many as 10 games throughout the season. Fans unable to pick up the over-the-air broadcast will be able to listen to the games via the internet at www.okstate.com. Broadcasts will begin 15 minutes prior to tipoff with pregame analysis, as well as interviews with Coach Halterman and various Cowgirl players.
