LAST TIME OUT
Despite a good showing in the first half, the Oklahoma State Cowgirls faltered and were outscored, 52-29, in the second period as the 10th-ranked Oklahoma sooners defeated OSU, 76-47, before 5,092 fans in Gallagher-Iba Arena here Saturday night. The Sooners shot an amazing 80.8 percent (21-of-26) in the second half, including 4-of-5 from behind the three-point arc. Oklahoma State, meanwhile, shot a meager 29.4 percent for the game, including just 5-of-28 (17.9 percent) from three-point range. OU's Caton Hill led all scorers with 22 points and added 19 rebounds to her stat totals. LaNeishea Caufield added 20 points, while Stacey Dales chipped in 18 points and pulled down 10 boards. Oklahoma State's lone scorer in double figures was Chantoya Hawkins, who scored 15 points off the bench, including three treys. Jessica Bates added eight points off the bench, as the Cowgirl starters scored just 16 of OSU's 47 points. ?Our kids really did a good job of competing in the first half, and the first seven or eight minutes of the second half,? said OSU coach Dick Halterman. ?Once Oklahoma got going, I felt like we didn't compete well down the stretch in the last 10 or 12 minutes.?
FAULK NAMED BIG 12 PLAYER OF THE WEEK
For the first time this season, a Cowgirl was named the Big 12 Conference's Player of the Week. Kara Faulk, a junior from Sapulpa, Okla., earned the honor for the week ending Feb. 4. COWGIRL ATTENDANCE RANKS 40th NATIONALLY
Oklahoma State has had 15,632 fans come through the turnstiles in the first seven games in Gallagher-Iba Arena, an average of 2,233 fans per game. It was bolstered mostly by a showing of 5,092 fans at the Oklahoma game on Feb. 10. That total was the third-most in Gallagher-Iba Arena history for a women's basketball game, and the fifth-most to ever watch a women's bedlam game in the state of Oklahoma. The average this season ranks OSU 40th nationally in unofficial attendance this season. Texas Tech is the Big 12 leader and ranks second nationally with 12,676 fans per contest. Iowa State is second in the league and fourth nationally at 11,268.
MISCELLANEOUS NOTES
-- Oklahoma State scored a season-high 95 points vs. West Virginia, the most for the Cowgirls since a 95-point performance vs. Texas A&M in Stillwater on Feb. 11, 1998.
-- OSU's 51.6 percent shooting vs. Texas A&M on Jan. 27 was a season high. It was also the highest since the Cowgirls shot 54.3 percent vs. the Aggies in Stillwater last season (Feb. 19).
-- The Cowgirls had a season-high six blocked shots vs. Baylor in Stillwater, the most since OSU had six vs. Colorado last season in Boulder. Mandy Stuber led the Cowgirls with three, while Shelby Hutchens had a key block of a Sheila Lambert shot attempt at the buzzer to insure the win.
-- Kara Faulk is just three points shy of the 500-point milestone. She has twice scored 24 points in a game this season, a career best.
-- Chantoya Hawkins is just five points shy of the 500-point plateau. She has 495 points in hertwo-year career.
-- OSU has limited its opponents to less than 60 points on seven occasions, and is 7-0 in those games. The Cowgirls have give up 70 or more points in just five games this year.
-- Although most members of the team would rather forget the 29-point performance vs. Texas Tech in Lubbock, it seems to have done some good. Prior to that contest, OSU was averaging 62.8 points per game. In the next three games following the debacle, the Cowgirls averaged 74.3 points per contest.
COWGIRLS IN THE RPI
Oklahoma State is ranked 41st in the Ratings Percentage Index published by College Basketball News on Feb. 11. The Cowgirls' schedule-strength rank (10th) is the second-toughest in the league behind Nebraska (seventh).
