LAST TIME OUT
Oklahoma State's bench scored 61 points as the Cowgirls defeated the Texas A&M Aggies, 85-69, last Saturday in Gallagher-Iba Arena. Jessica Bates led the team with 18 points as one of five players that scored in double figures. Mandy Stuber scored a career-high 16 points in an emotional game for the Piedmont, Okla., native. After missing the last two games due to the death of her father, Stuby came off the bench and was 6-of-7 from the field, including a perfect 4-of-4 from behind the three-point arc. ?It is something I thought I would never have to go through,? said Stuber, when asked about the last week. ?It is still hard to talk about. The first few practices were hard for me, but today, I knew that my dad wouldn't be back and I was playing for him.? Kara Faulk picked up her second double-double of the season with 14 points and a team-high 11 rebounds. Junior Nikki Lawrence was one rebound shy of her own double-double with 11 points and nine boards, while sophomore Chantoya Hawkins was two assists shy of a double-double with 14 points and eight dishes. The Cowgirls struggled early, trailing by as many as nine points on four occasions through the first 10-1/2 minutes. However, after being down 19-10, OSU went on a 13-0 run to take a four-point lead. Oklahoma State ended the half strong, outscoring A&M, 20-3, over the last eight minutes. The Aggies whittled away at the lead in the second half and, within six minutes, trailed by just one at 39-38. A&M took the lead once again on a layup by Janae Derrick, but Hawkins returned the favor on the other end of the court and OSU never trailed again. Texas A&M's Jaynetta Saunders had a game-high 31 points on 12-of-27 shooting, taking nearly 40 percent of the Aggies shots at the basket. Derrick finished with 14 points and a game-high 14 rebounds, while Brandy Jones chipped in 11 points for A&M. Oklahoma State shot 51.6 percent for the game, the first time this season over the 50-percent mark. The Cowgirls also shot 40 (8-of-20) percent from the three-point arc and 78.6 (11-of-14) percent from the charity stripe. Meanwhile, the Aggies were limited to just 39 percent shooting, including 10 percent from behind the arc.
OSU-BU SERIES
Baylor leads the all-time series with Oklahoma State, 8-5, although the Cowgirls lead the series in Stillwater with a perfect 4-0 record. Baylor won the last meeting between the two schools, an 81-69 victory a month ago in Waco. The Cowgirls won the last meeting in Gallagher-Iba Arena, a 75-54 win on Jan. 22, 2000.
