COWGIRLS LOOK TO BREAK ABOVE .500 WITH TILT AGAINST SE LOUISIANA
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team will look to snap a two-game
losing skid on Saturday as the Southeastern Louisiana Lady Lions come
calling for a 2 p.m. contest at Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Saturday's game will be OSU's first since Nov. 25 and its first home game since a Nov. 18 contest against Oral Roberts.
After winning their first-round matchup with Weber State in the Panda Travel Rainbow Wahine Classic, the Cowgirls dropped back-to-back games against Penn State and Hawaii to close out the tournament and fall to 3-3 on the season.
SLU comes to town with a 1-5 mark after suffering a 67-56 setback to Texas A&M on Wednesday night in College Station, Texas. A&M is the second Big 12 foe the Lady Lions have faced this season, as they also took on Missouri, losing 76-46 in Columbia.
The Lady Lions will be looking to halt a losing streak as well, dropping five straight after opening the season with a 105-46 win over Loyola (N.O.).
Offensively, SLU is led by guard Ann Webster. The senior has been the squad's top scorer three times and is tops on the team in scoring, averaging 12.3 points per contest.
Saturday's game will be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cowgirls opened their four-game road swing with a showdown against the
Wichita State Shockers on Nov. 20. Hindered by a scoring drought that
spanned more than eight minutes, OSU saw an early lead evaporate and WSU
build a double-digit advantage. The Cowgirls whittled the 15-point deficit
down to two points, but could get no closer in their first loss of the
season. The Cowgirls rebounded in the first round of the Panda Travel
Rainbow Wahine Classic with a 77-64 win over Weber State. Trisha Skibbe and
Chantoya Hawkins each scored 17 points while Kara Faulk notched the squad's
first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 boards. In a
second-round matchup with No. 19 Penn State, the Lady Lions benefitted from
a 25-point outing by Kelly Mazzante on their way to a 73-54 triumph. Skibbe
poured in 15 points and grabbed six rebounds to pace the Cowgirls. OSU
finished the event against host-school Hawaii in the fourth-place game. The
Rainbow Wahine blistered the nets offensively in the first half, shooting
77.3 percent to build a 15-point lead and held on for a 72-62 win. Skibbe
and Faulk led the charge offensively for OSU, posting 18 points apiece.
