MALIBU, Calif. - Oklahoma State's women's basketball team rode a 27-point outing from Tari Cummings to a 74-55 win over Brown on Saturday afternoon in the consolation game of the Pepperdine Holiday Classic at Firestone Fieldhouse.
The Cowgirls (7-5) raced out to a 20-8 lead with 17 of those coming courtesy of Cummings. The senior forward scored OSU's first 11 points and finished the game 9-of-13 from the floor to go along with an 8-of-10 effort from the free-throw line.
The Pocola, Okla., native converted three consecutive three-point plays during a 50-second span to fuel the Cowgirls' offense in the early going and single-handedly give OSU an 11-4 lead. Cummings also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds on her way to being named to the event's all-tournament team.
The Cowgirls took advantage of 11 turnovers by the Bears (3-8) in the half and built their largest lead at 36-11 on a pair of free throws by Trisha Skibbe at the 5:57 mark.
Brown shot 57 percent in the second half and outscored OSU 32-20 in the second half, but could draw no closer than 16 as the Cowgirls hit 40 percent (10-of-25) of their shots in the stanza.
OSU will close out the non-conference portion of its schedule on Jan. 2 when it returns home to host Prairie View A&M at 7 p.m.
