Oklahoma State's women's basketball team will play the second of its three games slated for this week on Wednesday night when it travels to Fayetteville, Ark., to take on the University of Arkansas at 7 p.m.
The Cowgirls (5-3) are coming off an eight-point victory over Northern Arizona on Monday night, while the Lady Razorbacks (6-2) will be hitting the hardwood for the first time since a 73-69 overtime win against Western Michigan on Dec. 9.
Senior guard Amy Wright highlights the Arkansas lineup. The Williamsburg, Ind., native enters the contest averaging 6.5 assists per contest this season and is the school's all-time leader, dishing out 561 during her career.
Sophomore forward Shameka Christon tops the scoring chart for Arkansas, pouring in 16.7 points per contest to go along with a team-high 6.9 rebounds a game
OSU holds a slim 9-8 advantage in the all-time series and will be looking to avenge last season's 69-61 setback to the Lady 'Backs at the Myriad in Oklahoma City.
Arkansas has won the last three meetings between the two schools with the last Cowgirl triumph coming during the 1993-94 campaign, a 93-90 overtime win in Fayetteville.
Wednesday's meeting will be only the second time OSU has ventured into the 19,500-seat Walton Arena.
LAST TIME OUT
The Cowgirls extended their winning streak to two games on Monday night,
defeating Northern Arizona 64-56 before a season-best 3,421 fans at
Gallagher-Iba Arena. The turnout was the most since 5,092 attended last
year's contest against Oklahoma on Feb. 10. OSU used a stellar defensive
effort in the second half, holding NAU scoreless until the 13:44 mark and
giving up only four points in the first 11 minutes of the half. Sophomore
Trisha Skibbe led the way with 14 points, while senior Kara Faulk pulled 12
rebounds.
COMING UP
The Cowgirls will return home for their third game in five days when they
host Marshall on Friday at 7 p.m. OSU will then take a week off before
traveling to Malibu, Calif., where they will battle George Washington in the
first round of the Pepperdine Holiday Classic. The Cowgirls will close out
the event with a tilt against either Pepperdine or Brown.
