COWGIRLS OPEN ROAD SLATE WITH TILT AGAINST SHOCKERS
Oklahoma State's women's basketball team will hit the road on Tuesday as
the Cowgirls travel to Wichita, Kan., to take on Wichita State at 7 p.m. in
the first of four away games for OSU. The Cowgirls and Shockers squared off
last season at the Mabee Center in Tulsa, with OSU prevailing 67-59.
Cowgirl center Jessica Bates came up big in the contest, tallying 23 points
and 10 boards in the game to lead OSU to the win.
Tuesday's game will be WSU's season opener. Coach Darryl Smith's club opened the season with a pair of exhibition wins.
The Shockers are led by a pair of first-team All-Valley selections, Jennifer Kaczka and Angela Buckner. Kaczka, a senior forward, averaged 15.8 points and 9.1 rebounds per contest a year ago on her way to earning all-conference honors for the second consecutive season. Buckner, a 6-2 sophomore, was also named the MVC Freshman of the Year after recording 20 double-doubles and finishing second in the country in rebounding (12.6 rpg). WSU finished last season with a 10-17 record overall and an 8-10 mark in the Missouri Valley Conference.
