Stillwater, Okla. - Julian Richardson, a 6-0 combo guard at Monsignor Edward Pace High School in Miami, Fla., has signed a national-letter-of-intent with Oklahoma State's men's basketball program, it was announced today. Richardson is the first player to sign with the Cowboys.
"I'm just really glad to be coming to Oklahoma State," said Richardson, who chose OSU over Florida State, Clemson, South Florida and Georgia Southern. "It will be a great opportunity for me to get better and to play for a great program."
Richardson averaged 18 points and eight assists per game last season, as well as 5.5 rebounds per contest, in leading the Spartans to a 30-5 record and the regional finals his junior year. He was named the MVP of the Junior Orange Bowl Tournament, and was first-team All-Dade County.
"We feel that his strength is that he is very versatile," said OSU Associate Head Coach Sean Sutton. "We see him more as a point guard throughout his career at Oklahoma State. He's a great young man, who has tremendous speed and quickness that can really score. He has outstanding ball-handling skills, and we're proud that he's joined our program."
Richardson was ranked as the 14th-best player overall in the state following his junior season and the third-best point guard in the state of Florida. This preseason, he has been ranked as the seventh-best overall player in the state, and the second-best point guard.
"Julian has been a tremendous competitior at Pace," said Mark Lieberman, Richardson's high school coach. "He can not only get to the basket, but he can knock down the big shot as well."
