Oklahoma State's men's tennis team came up just short of the championship in the doubles finals match at the ITA Rolex Regional in Wichita on Saturday.
Seniors Matt Prentice and Fran Krepelka, the No.2 seed, fell to Tulsa's Shri Sudhaker and Dane McGregor, the No.1 seed, 7-9 in the doubles finals match. The duo finished the tournament with a record of 4-1.
"It was a good quality match that could have gone either way," said Head Coach James Wadley. "Things just didn't seem to go our way towards the end."
Prentice lost his singles match in the quarterfinals to Indiana State's Vedron Vidovic 6-2, 5-7, 6-7(4). Prentice finished the tournament with a record of 3-1 in singles play.
Krepelka advanced to the semifinals by beating Bryan Endress of Drake 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 in the quarterfinals. He fell short in the semifinals match losing to Indiana State's Lovre Brajkovic 6-3, 1-6, 2-6. Krepelka finished the tournament with a 4-1 record in singles play.
"Fran played a great first set but came up short the next two sets," said Assistant Head Coach Brad Chiller. "Brajkovic really lifted his game at the end."
The Cowboys had a strong fall season that included winning the World Team Tennis National Championship.
The spring season will kick off on Jan. 20 in Tulsa when the Cowboys will face North Carolina State.
