STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State men's basketball coach Eddie Sutton today announced the hiring of Glynn Cyprien as a new assistant coach with the Cowboys' program.
"Some of my former assistants recommended Cyp very highly," said Sutton. "He is very well respected in the coaching profession, and I think he will rank right up there with all the outstanding assistant coaches I've had."
OSU assistant coach Sean Sutton said, "Cyp is a great person, a very good basketball coach and an outstanding recruiter. His experience was a big reason for our decision to hire him. I'm excited about the opportunity to work with him, and I know that he'll be a great asset to Oklahoma State University."
Cyprien joins the OSU staff after spending five years on the UNLV men's basketball staff, the last two as associate head coach. He was instrumental in UNLV's recruiting over his five years in Las Vegas. The Rebels' 1996-97 recruiting class was tabbed as the nation's best by the Sporting News and Basketball Times, and the 1998-99 class was ranked second nationally by Hoop Scoop.
"I'm extremely excited to be able to work for a future Hall of Fame coach in Eddie Sutton," said Cyprien. "I'm happy to become a part of that program, and I hope I can contribute to the kind of success they've had in the past. OSU already has some great coaches on staff, and it's an honor to join them."
Cyprien, who has coached four NBA players during his career, was an assistant coach at Western Kentucky before joining UNLV's staff. As an assistant with the Hilltoppers in 1994-95, he was associated with a team that went 27-4 and advanced to the NCAA Tournament's second round after winning Sun Belt Conference regular-season and tournament titles.
Before joining Western Kentucky, Cyprien was associate head coach at Jacksonville University during 1991-94. His other coaching experience includes stints as assistant coach at Lamar and Texas-San Antonio.
Cyprien fills a vacancy created when former OSU assistant Jimmy Williams left the Cowboys for the Minnesota Timberwolves.
