Jimmy Williams Resigns OSU Basketball Post

STILLWATER, Okla. -- Assistant men's basketball coach Jimmy Williams is resigning from his position with Oklahoma State, the Cowboys announced today.
Williams has spent one year with Cowboy Basketball, helping lead the team to an NCAA Final Eight appearance. He was instrumental in OSU's recruiting efforts as the program signed seven players to letters of intent during the 1999-2000 academic year. The Cowboys' recruiting class has been rated among the top five in the country by some publications.
"Jimmy was a very important addition to the OSU basketball program, and we'll miss him," said Cowboys coach Eddie Sutton. "He's a tremendous person and a very fine basketball coach. We wish him nothing but the best in the future."
Williams had come to OSU from Nebraska, where he spent seven years on Danny Nee's staff. Prior to coaching stints at San Diego State and Tulsa, Williams had been an assistant coach for 15 years at Minnesota. Newspaper reports have indicated that Williams will soon be hired as an NBA assistant coach.
"This year at Oklahoma State has been one of the best years I've ever had as a coach," said Williams. "I have the greatest respect for Eddie Sutton, and it's a hard decision to leave Stillwater. But I think I have a wonderful opportunity ahead of me."
Sutton said OSU's search for a replacement would begin immediately.
