STILLWATER, Okla.- Tanya Ray, an assistant coach at Blinn College last season, has joined the Oklahoma State Cowgirl Basketball staff, it was announced today, pending approval by the Board of Regents. Ray replaces Paula Ross, who resigned her post at OSU to pursue other coaching interests.
"Tanya will bring several things to our program," said OSU Coach Dick Halterman. "Her youth and enthusiasm for the game will be a vital and positive addition to the team. She will also be able to relate well with the players, because of her relative closeness in age."
Ray worked for Coach Kerri Brinkoeter and led the Lady Bucs to a 23-8 record last season. Her primary duties included recruiting, academic advisement and on-the-floor coaching.
"She's very energetic, which will be influential when on the road recruiting," said Halterman. "She is an obvious match with the direction we want our program to go."
Prior to her coaching stint at Blinn, Ray spent her final two collegiate seasons at St. Mary's University in San Antonio, Texas. She transferred to St. Mary's from South Plains College, where she led the Lady Texans to a top-10 national ranking. She spent her freshman season at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
"This will be a great opportunity fo me and my career," said Ray. "Coach Halterman and Coach Easley have been great throughout the entire process. I'm looking forward to getting started right away."
Ray, a native of Brenham, Texas, earned her bachelor of arts degree in exercise sports science from St. Mary's in 1999. She was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor society, and was named to either the dean's or president's honor roll every semester of her college career.
