STILLWATER, Okla. - Former Oklahoma State men's basketball player Desmond Mason was selected by the Seattle SuperSonics as the 17th pick in Wednesday's NBA draft.
Mason, who earned first-team All-Big 12 honors and third-team All-America mention as a senior in 1999-2000, is the first Cowboy taken in the NBA draft since Bryant Reeves was taken by Vancouver as the sixth pick in 1995.
In 1999-2000, Mason led OSU in scoring (18.0 ppg) and also averaged 6.6 rebounds per game. He finished his career ranked fourth in school history in career scoring, rebounding, steals, minutes played, games started and double-doubles, and fifth in blocked shots and three-pointers made.
He finished third on the school's career NCAA Tournament scoring chart, thanks in part to a 30-point effort in this season's first round of the tourney. During his career, OSU's winning percentage was 28 points higher when he led the Cowboys in scoring.
