DALLAS, Texas - Oklahoma State's Jennifer Crow was one of 11 Big 12 scholar-athletes selected to receive a $5,000 postgraduate scholarship, it was announced today by the conference office. She becomes the third OSU student-athlete to receive the award in the Conference's four-year history.
A committee of three faculty representatives, a senior woman administrator and a director of athletics determined the number of recipients to be given awards. Criteria of eligibility to receive the award includes a minimum cumulative grade point average of a 3.5 on a 4.0 scale, participation in at least two years of intercollegiate competition, and completion of athletics eligibility. The scholar-athletes also must be graduating from their respective institutions within 15 months of their selection as postgraduate scholarship recipients and are expected to enroll in graduate/professional school within two years after they graduate.
Crow, who will graduate in December of 2000 with a degree in elementary education, was a two-time first-team GTE/CoSIDA Academic All-American. She finished her basketball career with the fourth-most points in school history and, during her senior season, set the all-time single-season scoring average mark.
Earlier this month, Crow was named one of just six Division I women's basketball players to receive a $5,000 postgraduate scholarship from the National Collegiate Athletics Association. The NCAA annually awards 174 postgraduate scholarships to student-athletes who have excelled academically and athletically, and who are in their last year of intercollegiate athletics competition.
"Jennifer's definitely going to use those (scholarships) to continue on with her masters' degree," said OSU Coach Dick Halterman. "She's what everybody wants (in a student-athlete). Jen's not just a basktetball player. She does the things we want all our players to do. She's a well-rounded person."
