COLUMBIA, Miss. - Missouri scored three runs in each of the fourth and fifth innings, recording an 8-0 mercy-rule on the 20th-ranked Oklahoma State Cowgirls here Sunday afternoon. The loss drops OSU to 29-15 overall and 6-5 in Big 12 Conference action.
Mizzou's Ingrid Warner limited the Cowgirls to just three hits while walking two and striking out seven. The Tigers had no troubles on offense, however, bashing out 11 hits, including three for extra bases.
MU scored its first run in the second when Linda Swarts scored from third on a wild pitch. The Tigers added a run in the third on an RBI single by Christy Skouby, one of her two hits on the day.
Missouri scored three runs in the fourth, including two on a triple by pinch-hitter Kristen Burke. Burke then scored on a base hit by Lindsey Jacoby, making the score 5-0.
The Tigers scored two more runs in the fifth on back-to-back bases loaded singles, increasing the score to 7-0, and the mercy rule was called into effect when Erin Erickson was hit by a pitch from Annie Gunderson, scoring the eighth and final run.
Oklahoma State will host Wichita State (12-20 overall, 2-2 in Missouri Valley) on Thursday, April 13, at the Cowgirl Stadium in Stillwater. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
