STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State's 23rd-ranked softball team lost its final regular-season conference game here Sunday afternoon, falling to Texas A&M, 7-0, at Cowgirl Stadium.
The Aggies scored one run in each of the second, third and fifth innings. A&M scored its first run when Lisa Klam led off the second with a double, and scored on an RBI-single by Angie Shetler. Selena Collins led off the third with a solo home run, her fifth of the season, making the score 2-0.
In the fifth, Shetler scored on a base hit by Angie Long after reaching base on a error. Shetler stole second, and then scored on the up-the-middle hit by Long.
Oklahoma State stayed in the game, getting baserunners on but failing to reach home. The Cowgirls stranded eight runners, including a runner on third with one out in the fourth.
A&M added four runs in the seventh inning on five straight base hits to start the inning. Collins led off with a double, and was followed by a Kelly Ferguson base hit. Tiffany Esters followed with a three-run homer, her fourth of the season, over the leftfield fence. The Aggies got two more hits, and Klam scored on an error from third after reaching on a wild pitch.
Freshman Lauren Bay started the game for OSU, and gave up four runs on eight hits. Freshman Karla Rivera came on in relief in the seventh, but was pulled after giving up the three runs without an out.
Oklahoma State (33-20 overall, 8-10 Big 12) will host the Tulsa Golden Hurricane on Monday, May 8, at 1 p.m. in a doubleheader before traveling to Oklahoma City for the Big 12 Softball Tournament, May 10-13, at Don E. Porter/ASA Hall of Fame Stadium.
