STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Jennifer Crow scored a game-high 22 points, but the Cowgirls scored just three points in the first 10 minutes of the second half as OSU fell to the Kansas State Wildcats, 71-64, here Wednesday night before 1,709 fans in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
Crow, who is averaging over 21 points per game this season, continued her Player-of-the-Year quest with a 22-point, five-rebound, five-assist performance.
Sophomore Jessica Bates had a great first half with 10 points and six rebounds, but struggled in the second, fouling out with 7:13 remaining. She did, however, finish with the first double-double of her career with 13 points and 11 rebounds.
Oklahoma State got out to an early 4-0 lead, and hit five of its first six shots from the field. The Cowgirls led by as many as eight, 33-25, with 4:54 remaining in the first half. However, KSU went on a 10-0 run to go ahead by two, and trailed by just one, 38-37, at halftime.
The second half looked eerily familiar to the Cowgirls, who had struggled to score to start the second period vs. both Missouri and Kansas. The Wildcats outscored OSU, 13-2, to start the half, and led by as many as 12 on three occasions, the last being at the 8:40 mark.
Crow hit a three pointer to cut the lead to nine, and after a pair of free throws by KSU's Nicky Ramage, the Cowgirls scored 13 unanswered points to take a two-point lead. The effort was too much, though, and after a 61-61 tie with 4:25 to go in the game, K-State finished the game on a 10-3 run.
Oklahoma State (12-10 overall, 4-6 Big 12) will host the Oklahoma Sooners (19-3, 9-1) on Saturday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena. The game will be televised by Fox Sports Southwest.
