STILLWATER, Okla. -- Oklahoma State's Jennifer Crow scored a game-high 25 points and moved into first in the Big 12 in scoring as the Cowgirls defeated Texas A&M, 80-66, here Saturday afternoon before 1,306 fans in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
It was a game of milestones, as Coach Dick Halterman picked up his 300th win at the school, becoming just the sixth coach to ever do so at Oklahoma State. Crow also moved into third place on the all-time career scoring list, surpassing Jamie Siess. Crow now has 1,700 points in her career.
Oklahoma State led early, 14-3, after the Aggies made just one of their first 11 shots. But, A&M pressed on, and by halftime, held a 33-29 lead going into the lockerroom.
The Aggies led by as many as six at the 16:25 mark of the second period, leading 42-36. But, the Cowgirls scored three straight buckets, including two by Jessica Bates, to tie the score at 42.
There were three ties over the next three minutes, but OSU took the lead for good on two free throws by Crow. She was a perfect 12-of-12 >from the line, as the Cowgirls shot 92.9 percent (26-of-28) from the charity stripe.
Four Cowgirls scored in double figures, including 16 by freshman Shelby Hutchens, 12 by freshman Chantoya Hawkins and 10 by Bates. Crow recorded her fourth double-double of the season by adding 13 rebounds, all defensive. Hutchens had a career-high eight assists.
"If a team ever needed a win, it was our team," said Halterman. "Texas A&M was coming off a couple of wins. We knew it would be a struggle going in and we would have to play better than what we've been playing. We struggled in the first half offensively, but the second half was probably one of our better offensive outputs."
Crow has 535 points in the season in 25 games, while Texas' Edwina Brown has 533 through her first 25. The Longhorns played at Colorado Saturday night.
Oklahoma State (13-12 overall, 5-8 Big 12), which broke a five-game losing streak, will play at Nebraska on Tuesday, Feb. 22, at 7 p.m. in the Devany Sports Center in Lincoln, Neb.
