OSU is now 10-2 in Big 12 play. The Cowboys, who were 11-5 in the
league in 1998 and 10-6 in 1999, have won at least 10 conference games in
three consecutive years for the first time since the 1935-36 through 1938-39
seasons, when Oklahoma A&M went a combined 42-3 while winning four of its
five consecutive Missouri Valley Conference crowns.
The Cowboys moved back into a tie for first place in the Big 12 with
Iowa State and Texas.
The victory is OSU's first in Stillwater over Nebraska since Feb. 18,
1995, snapping a two-game losing streak. However, the Cowboys have won six
of the last nine games in the series.
In its past three home games, OSU has shot 32-55 (.582) from
three-point range and 97-179 (.542) from the field.
Joe Adkins scored 10 points tonight. In the past six games, he has
averaged 14.0 points.
Doug Gottlieb now has 865 assists in his career. Tonight, he dished out
nine assists and moved into 14th place in NCAA Division I history in that
category. He also hit his first three-pointer since the Jan. 15 Baylor game.
Brian Montonati hit the first two three-pointers of his career. His 22
points tie his career high for Division I games. Montonati also had 22
points against Texas-San Antonio earlier this season, and his overall career
high was a 28-point effort against Langston on Jan. 5. He recorded his
seventh double-double this season and the 10th of his career but his first
since Jan. 8.
Glendon Alexander hit six three-pointers tonight, marking the third
time he has done so this season (he had seven against Langston and six
against Texas A&M in Stillwater). In the previous four years, OSU players
had only made as many treys in a game twice (Alexander last season and
Adkins two years ago).
In its last three home games, OSU's average margin of victory is 34.7
points. The Cowboys came within one point of their all-time-widest margin of
victory against Nebraska. In fact, the team's last home win over the
Cornhuskers set the record in a 93-53 rout Feb. 18, 1995.
Alex Webber scored 10 points, his first double-digit outing since he
had 11 against Texas Tech in the league opener Jan. 8.
