COWGIRLS TO PLAY NO. 13 SOUTHWEST MISSOURI STATE
Oklahoma State Cowgirl basketball will travel to Springfield, Mo., Tuesday afternoon for a Wednesday night game with 13th-ranked Southwest Missouri State. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. Oklahoma State is 4-0 and coming off a 67-61 win over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. SMS is 2-1 on the young season and coming off an 81-77 loss to Texas Tech, despite a 38-point performance by senior Jackie Stiles. The OSU travel party will leave Stillwater via bus at 2 p.m. on Tuesday and return immediately following the game Wednesday night.
COMING UP
Oklahoma State will host its first game of the regular season this Friday, Dec. 1, when the Cowgirls and Arkansas hook it up at the Myriad in Oklahoma City. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. On Sunday, Dec. 3, OSU will host Washington in the Freede Wellness Center on the OCU campus. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
CAPTAINS
Juniors Kara Faulk and Nikki Lawrence were voted on by the team as the captains for the 2000-01 season. Faulk, a Sapulpa, Okla., native, is beginning her third year in a Cowgirl uniform. Lawrence is a junior college transfer originally from Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
LAST TIME OUT
Chantoya Hawkins scored a game-high 15 points, including 13 down the stretch as the Cowgirl basketball team defeated Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, 67-61, Saturday night to win the Islander Classic. OSU was 24-of-31 from the free-throw line in a game marred by 26 Islander fouls. Kara Faulk led the Cowgirls by going 7-of-8 from the charity stripe. That total included a 17-of-19 showcase in the second period. Oklahoma State fell behind, 6-0, early and struggled to get anything going offensively. However, the Cowgirl defense played extremely well, and the game was tied, 27-27, at intermission. OSU opened the second half with a pair of Faulk free throws and never trailed again. However, TAMUCC tied the game twice, first at 29-29 and again at 55-all. In the final 3:04, the Cowgirls were 8-of-8 from the line, including 4-of-4 >from Shelby Hutchens, as the Islanders were forced to foul. Hawkins and Hutchens were named to the all-tournament team.

Southwest Missouri State is 2-1 on the season with wins over Arkansas-Little Rock (97-34) and Louisiana State (85-75) and a loss to 10th-ranked Texas Tech (81-77). The Bears are led by senior All-American Jackie Stiles, who is currently averaging 37.7 points per contest. She is shooting 65.2 percent from the floor, 60 percent from behind the three-point arc and 95.5 percent from the free-throw line. Senior Tara Mitchem is averaging 10.3 points per game, while senior Carly Deer is pulling down an average of 93. rebounds per game. SMS is coached by Cheryl Burnett, in her 14th season with the Bears. She has an all-time record of 276-118.
OSU-SMS TIES
Oklahoma State has one player on its roster from the state of Missouri. Sophomore Chantoya Hawkins is from Raytown, Mo., a suburb of Kansas City. SMS senior Melody Campbell is a native of Claremore, Okla. Senior Carolyn Weirwick attended Northwestern Oklahoma A&M College in Alva. Juniors Erica Vicente and Erika Rante attended Bacone Junior College in Muskogee before transferring to SMS.
LAST TIME VS. SMS
Oklahoma State used a pair of double-doubles from Jennifer Crow and Tari Cummings as the Cowgirls defeated Southwest Missouri State, 66-58, last season in Stillwater. SMS?s Jackie Stiles led all scorers with 29 points, and Carly Deer had 15. Crow scored 24 points and Cummings added 15, despite battling the flu. Kara Faulk had a game-high 15 rebounds for the Cowgirls.
PLAYER NOTES
#2 Terrisha Osborn - Terrisha is averaging just under 10 minutes per game. She has 3.5 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, and is shooting 55.6 percent from the floor.
#4 Jessica Spinner - Jessica is second on the squad, averaging 9.5 points per game. She is shooting 40.7 percent from the floor and 88.9 percent from the line. She has connected on 8-of-22 treys., and was named to the all-tournament team of the Bertha Teague Memorial Classic.
#12 Jessica Bates - Jessica is averaging nine points and 5.3 rebounds per game. She is shooting 46.9 percent from the floor and 75 percent >from the line. She had a season-high 19 points vs. Cleveland State on 9-of-13 shooting.
#20 Shelby Hutchens - Shelby is averaging nine points and 3.5 rebounds per game, and has 10 assists in four games. She leads the team in going to the line, shooting 18-of-22 (81.8 percent). She has scored in double figures the last two games, and was named to the all-tournament team of the Islander Classic.
#21 Mandy Stuber - Has seen limited playing time in three games due to an ankle sprain.
#22 Kara Faulk - Kara is averaging 8.8 points and 6.5 rebounds in her starting role this season. She has struggled from the field, shooting just 30.3 percent. However, she is 2-of-3 from three-point range and is shooting 86.7 percent from the free-throw line.
#24 Machell Roberts - Machell is averaging 5.5 points and 2.3 rebounds in 15 minutes per contest. She is 3-of-5 from three-point territory, and is shooting 38.1 percent from the floor overall.
#32 Chantoya Hawkins - Chantoya is leading the team, averaging 11 points per contest, and leads the team with 34.8 minutes per game as well. She is shooting 47.4 percent from behind the arc, and has five rebounds per contest. She was named to the all-tournament team of the Islander Classic.
#54 Nikki Lawrence - Nikki is averaging five points and 2.5 rebounds per game, seeing just under 15 minutes of playing time per contest. She is shooting 50 percent from the floor and is a perfect 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.
#55 Trisha Skibbe - Trisha is averaging 8.3 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. She is shooting 41.7 percent from the field and 65 percent >from the free-throw line. Skibbe had 10 rebounds in her first game as a Cowgirl, and she reached double figures in scoring for the first time with 10 vs. TAMUCC.
