COWGIRLS TO COMPETE IN ISLANDER CLASSIC
Oklahoma State Cowgirl basketball will travel to Corpus Christi, Texas, this holiday weekend to compete in the Islander Classic, hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Cowgirls (2-0) will play Cleveland State (1-1) on Friday afternoon at 6 p.m., followed by TAMUCC (1-0) vs. Prairie View A&M (0-1) at 8 p.m. The losers will play on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the third-place game, followed by the championship game at 8 p.m. The OSU travel party will be staying at the Holiday Inn-Emerald Beach (361.883.5731).
COMING UP
The Cowgirls will travel to Springfield, Mo., next week to face the 21st-ranked Southwest Missouri State Bears on Wednesday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. in the Hammons Student Center. OSU will host its first game of the regular season on Friday, Dec. 1, when the Cowgirls and Arkansas hook it up at the Myriad in Oklahoma City. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Down by nine points with 9:40 remaining in the game, Oklahoma State went on a 22-0 run en route to a 68-57 victory over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane last Saturday in the Bertha Teague Memorial Classic. The Cowgirls tied a school record, connecting on 9-of-14 three-point field goals for 64.3 percent. Jessica Spinner paced the OSU arial attack, hitting 4-of-5 treys. She led all scorers with 17 points and was named to the all-tournament team. OSU trailed Tulsa, 51-43, with just under 10 minutes remaining in contest. The Cowgirls then proceeded to score at will while stopping TU on every trip down the court. Before the Golden Hurricane could score again, OSU had already put the game out of reach, 65-51. Kara Faulk joined Spinner in the double-figure scoring category with 12 points, and added nine rebounds. Sophomore Chantoya Hawkins and freshman Trisha Skibbe chipped in eight points each. Tulsa was led by Leela Farr, who finished the game with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. However, the Golden Hurricane as a team committed 24 fouls and turned the ball over 22 times.

Cleveland State is 1-1 this season after losing to Ohio State, 87-76, and defeating Niagara, 89-69. The Vikings are led by sophomore guard Erika Roudebush, who is averaging 21.5 points per game and shooting 50 percent from the field. Senior foward Mahogany Green is averaging 17 points and 9.5 rebounds per contest, along with 6.5 assists per game. She recorded the third triple-double in CSU history last week vs. Niagara with 16 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists. The head coach for the Vikings is Duffy Burns, who has a 66-76 record in five-plus seasons at CSU. OSU and CSU have never met on the court in women's basketball.

Texas A&M-Corpus Christi is 1-0 this season after a 71-51 win over Texas-Arlington Saturday. The Islanders were led by junior post Jean Clark, who scored 18 points and pulled down eight rebounds. She also tied for the team lead with seven assists. Freshman Anna Hartzell and sophomore Amanda Bryant also scored in double figures with 12 points each. The head coach of the Islanders is Sheryl Estes, who is 15-12 starting her second season with TAMUCC and 198-74 overall in eight-plus seasons as a head coach. OSU defeated TAMUCC, 77-40, last year in Stillwater.

Prairie View A&M is 0-1 this season after falling to conference-rival Southern, 59-49, Saturday in Baton Rouge. The Panthers were led by a pair of players with 11 points in senior guard Pressy Elogado and sophomore center Tanisha Lee. Lee also had 14 rebounds. freshman center Monica Grass picked up a double-double of her own with 10 points and 10 rebounds in just 21 minutes before fouling out. PVAMU is coached by Robert Atkins, who is in his 15th season overall at the school and has a 99-330 record.
CAPTAINS
Juniors Kara Faulk and Nikki Lawrence were voted on by the team as the captains for the 2000-01 season. Faulk, a Sapulpa, Okla., native, is beginning her third year in a Cowgirl uniform. Lawrence is a junior college transfer originally from Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
PLAYER NOTES
#00 Toya Releford - Toya is recovering well from surgery this past August, and finished up her chemotherapy and radiation treatments Thursday, Nov. 2. She could be available to play by late December.
#2 Terrisha Osborn - Terrisha has five points, six rebounds and three assists in the first two games of her Cowgirl career, in 15 minutes of playing time.
#4 Jessica Spinner - Jessica has been on fire to start her junior season, averaging 13 points on 8-of-15 shooting from the floor, including 5-of-10 from beyond the arc. She was named to the all-tournament team of the Bertha Teague Memorial Classic.
#12 Jessica Bates - Jessica is averaging six points and six rebounds after the first two games of the season. She's struggling from the field, hitting just 4-of-15 shots, but is perfect from the free-throw line (4-of-4).
#20 Shelby Hutchens - Shelby is averaging seven points and 2.5 assists in the first two games, in the lineup mostly for her defense on the opposing team's best player.
#21 Mandy Stuber - Played just five minutes last weekend in two games while nursing an ankle sprain.
#22 Kara Faulk - Kara is averaging 11 points and seven rebounds in the first two games. She was one rebound shy of a double-double vs. Tulsa. She also has three assists and three steals. Kara picked up two charges in the game vs. Tulsa.
#24 Machell Roberts - Machell is averaging 8.5 points per game and is 2-of-3 from behind the three-point line. She is averaging 22.5 minutes per game.
#32 Chantoya Hawkins - Chantoya is averaging 10.5 points per game and is 5-of-8 from behind the arc. She is averaging 32 minutes per game.
#54 Nikki Lawrence - Nikki has eight points and three rebounds in 28 minutes of playing time. She is 3-of-6 from the field.
#55 Trisha Skibbe - Trisha is averaging eight points and six rebounds per game. She was two points shy of a double-double vs. ORU with eight points and 10 rebounds. She scored the game-tying basket with 0.1 seconds to send the ORU game into overtime.
DAWSON SIGNS WITH OSU
Julie Dawson, a member of the Daily Oklahoman's Super-5 team last season, has signed a National Letter of Intent to play collegiately at OSU. Dawson, who helped lead Arnett to the state championship as a sophomore, averaged 22.3 points and 8.9 rebounds last season for the Class B state semifinalist. She also averaged 2.1 assists, 4.2 steals and 2.3 blocked shots for a team that finished 27-4. Dawson shot 57 percent from the floor and 78 percent from the free-throw line. In her three-year career at Arnett, Dawson has 1,853 points, 801 rebounds 374 steals, 206 blocks and 190 assists. She was named to the first-team Blue Chip list last season, and was a second-team honoree after her sophomore year. She's also a two-time member of the Class B All-Tournament team. Dawson was recruited by several Division I schools, and chose Oklahoma State over Texas, Texas Tech, Arkansas and Oklahoma.
