TULSA, Okla. - Down by nine points with 9:40 remaining in the game, Oklahoma State went on a 20-0 run en route to a 68-57 victory over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane here Saturday afternoon in the third game of the Bertha Teague Memorial Classic.
The Cowgirls tied a school record, connecting on 9-of-14 three-point field goals for 64.3 percent. That percentage tied the record set on Dec. 15, 1996, vs. Nicholls State. Junior Jessica Spinner paced the OSU arial attack, hitting 4-of-5 treys. She led all scorers with 17 points.
Oklahoma State trailed Tulsa, 55-46, with just under 10 minutes remaining in contest. The Cowgirls then proceeded to score at will while stopping TU on every trip down the court. Before the Golden Hurricane could score again, OSU had already put the game out of reach, 66-55.
"We're young and have a lot of inexperience at a lot of positions," said OSU coach Dick Halterman. "We've gotta play 40 minutes every game the way we played the last 10 tonight."
Junior Kara Faulk joined Spinner in the double-figure scoring category with 12 points, and added nine rebounds. Sophomore Chantoya Hawkins and freshman Trisha Skibbe chipped in eight points each.
Tulsa was led by Leela Farr, who finished the game with 15 points and a game-high 12 rebounds. However, the Golden Hurricane as a team committed 24 fouls and turned the ball over 22 times.
Oklahoma State (2-0) will travel to Corpus Christi, Texas, next weekend to compete in the Islander Classic, hosted by Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. The Cowgirls' first opponent will be Cleveland State on Friday night at 6 p.m.
