STILLWATER, Okla. - Lane Danielsen's 33-yard touchdown catch with 18 seconds remaining - his only catch of the night - gave Iowa State a 33-26 victory over Oklahoma State on Saturday night.
The Cyclones (5-1, 2-1 Big 12) took advantage of three turnovers to score 13 fourth-quarter points and hand Oklahoma State (2-4, 0-3) its fourth straight loss.
Iowa State freshman Michael Wagner ran for 170 yards and scored three touchdowns while playing in place of the Big 12's leading rusher, Ennis Haywood, who sat out with bruised ribs. Wagner's 26 carries were three more than his total entering the game.
Punter Carl Gomez had field goals of 34 and 20 yards in the fourth quarter to put the Cyclones ahead 26-23. Gomez took over the kicking duties after Mike McKnight had an extra point blocked and missed a field goal in the first half.
Oklahoma State tied it on a 34-yard field goal by Seth Condley with 2:41 remaining.
Iowa State's final drive started at its 39 with 1:17 remaining after an interception by Atif Austin. Sage Rosenfels scrambled for a first down on third-and-10, then hit Craig Campbell on a 12-yard completion.
On third-and-4 from the 33, Rosenfels hit Danielsen on a slant pattern. Danielsen caught the ball in stride in front of cornerback Michael Cooper and sprinted untouched to the end zone.
Oklahoma State freshman Aso Pogi, starting in place of injured Tony Lindsay, was 26-of-45 for a school freshman-record 328 yards and two touchdowns, and he scored once on the ground. But he also threw the costly interception late.
His 6-yard TD run in the third quarter gave the Cowboys a 23-20 lead. Then he fumbled while being sacked late in the quarter, and the Cyclones drove to the OSU 3 before Gomez hit from 20 yards away to tie the score.
The Cowboys' next possession ended when T.D. Bryant caught a pass and turned upfield, and the ball popped out of his hands into the arms of cornerback Jamarcus Powers.
Completions of 16 and 22 yards by Rosenfels helped move the Cyclones inside the 20, and Gomez made a 34-yard field goal for a 26-23 lead.
Wagner took advantage of misdirection plays to slice through the defense and gain 100 yards by halftime. He scored on a 2-yard run to cap the Cyclones' opening drive, and scored again on a 5-yard run early in the second quarter that tied the score at 13. His third TD came on a 13-yard reception in the third.
