STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) - Oklahoma State should have an easy time bouncing back from its first loss of the season as it plays host to NAIA foe Langston on Wednesday night.
The 16th-ranked Cowboys (10-1) fell from the ranks of the unbeaten with a 63-53 loss to LSU on Thursday at the Sugar Bowl Classic in New Orleans. Joe Adkins scored 14 points and Brian Montonati added 13 for Oklahoma State, which scored just five points in the final 12 minutes.
"Five points in the last 12 minutes of the second half, stagnant half-court offense. It wasn't pretty out there," Oklahoma State coach Eddie Sutton said. "I think the 4 1/2 days we had off for Christmas hurt us."
Desmond Mason, who averages 19.6 points, was held to seven on 3-for-10 shooting. Glendon Alexander also was 3-for-10 from the field and finished with nine points.
Montonati is second on the team in scoring at 12.9 points per game and Alexander third at 12.6. Point guard Doug Gottlieb leads the nation in assists at 10.7 per game.
Oklahoma State is shooting just under 50 percent from the field and averaging 83.7 points.
Langston (1-8) is located just 24 miles from Stillwater, but the Lions are playing the Cowboys for the first time in school history. They have no player taller than 6-8 and are led by Lee James, who is averaging 18 points and 5.2 rebounds.
Senior guards Derrick Edwards and Aaron Davis are contributing 8.3 and 7.1 points per game, respectively.
