STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma States Sheryl Anderson scattered four hits while striking out five and freshman Jenny Kipp went 2-for-3 with two runs batted in as OSU defeated the Wichita State Shockers, 6-0, here Wednesday night.
The OSU offense started early, scoring two runs in the bottom of the second on three straight base hits. Catcher Liz Silva and Kipp each had their first of two on the night, sandwiched around a single by senior Melissa Turley. Both Silva and Turley scored.
In the bottom of the third, the Cowgirls added three more on two hits, two walks and a costly error at the plate. OSU added one more run to the scoreboard in the fifth on a bases loaded walk by shortstop Casey ONeill.
Wichita State had its opportunities. On three occasions, in the fourth, sixth and seventh innings, the Shockers ended the inning with the bases loaded. Jessica Jenkins, who relieved Anderson in the top of the sixth, forced Susie Gates to ground out in the sixth and Jillene Black to fly out in the seventh.
OSU is 56-1 all-time vs. WSU, including 55 straight vs. the regional rival. The Cowgirls have not lost to Wichita State since 1978, the second game of the long-time series. It was also the 34th shutout by Oklahoma State in the series.
Oklahoma State (19-21) will host the Hawaii Rainbow Wahine on Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. at Cowgirl Field. On Friday, OSU will wrap up the regular season with a 6:30 p.m. game vs. bedlam rival Oklahoma in the final game of the season for both teams. Wichita State is now 21-34.
