Cowgirl Softball Drops Two to Missouri

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Cowgirl softball team dropped two games to the Missouri Tigers here Sunday afternoon at Cowgirl Field, losing 7-3 in game one before falling in the second game, 6-2.
The Tigers used big innings in both games. In game one, MU scored five runs in the top of the second inning, chasing starter Jessica Jenkins from the mound. Jenkins gave up six runs, all earned, on seven hits in just 1-2/3 innings. Senior Sheryl Anderson came on in relief, and threw the remaining 5-1/3 innings, allowing just one run, unearned, on one hit and four walks.
Senior Michelle Singer was named the player of the game after going 3-for-4 with a single, a double and a solo home run that cleared the left-centerfield fence. Leadoff hitter Shelly Graham went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Missouri's Christy Caccavo, who started both games for the Tigers, scattered eight Cowgirl hits in giving up just the homer by Singer. Stephanie Falk pitched the final two innings, giving up two runs in the final inning.
In the second game, OSU took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the third on RBI double by Casey Acree and an RBI single by Singer. Falk came in for Mizzou in the bottom of that inning, shutting down the Cowgirls for the remainder of the game.
Meanwhile, the Tiger offense got going, scoring three runs in the top of the fourth and two more insurance runs in the seventh. Falk picked up the win and improved to 15-7. Leftfielder Wendy Harrison went 3-for-5 in the game for Missouri, while OSU had six batters get a hit, with doubles from Graham, Acree and shortstop Casey O'Neill.
Oklahoma State (13-15 overall, 0-2 Big 12) will take a break from conference action as the Cowgirls travel to Broken Arrow, Okla., this Wednesday to take on the Tulsa Golden Hurricane. Game time is set for 5 p.m. Missouri (26-12, 2-1) will face Kansas this Saturday at 1 p.m. in Columbia, Mo.
