STILLWATER, Okla. - Sixth-ranked Texas Tech was more than Oklahoma State could handle as the Lady Raiders defeated the Cowgirls, 79-68, before 2,790 fans at Gallagher-Iba Arena here Saturday night.
TTU's Angie Braziel scored a game-high 26 points on 11-of-18 shooting from the floor. OSU's Jennifer Crow tried to keep up, scoring 24 points, but the Cowgirls turned the ball over 26 times, compared to 16 for the Lady Raiders.
Texas Tech opened the game with 14 straight points, with Oklahoma State committing five turnovers on six trips down the court. The Lady Raiders increased the lead to as many as 18 at the 9:35 mark of the first half at 31-13. But, OSU went on a 19-4 run for the remainder of the first half and trailed by just three, 35-32, going into the lockerroom.
"It was a great start, and I was really please with that," said Texas Tech Coach Marsha Sharp. "It was a hard-fought game all the way through. I was disappointed we let them get back in it in the first half because I didn't want to have to battle back that much while on the road."
Texas Tech had four starters score in double figures, including 8-of-17 shooting from behind the three-point arc by TTU's three starting guards. OSU's only other double-figure scorer, Nikki Harmon, finished with 11 points and six rebounds. Cowgirl freshman Kara Faulk led all players with eight rebounds, while OSU held the rebounding edge, 32-26.
Along with leading the team in scoring, Crow became the all-time school leader in three-point shots made with her trey in the first half. She finished the game with three three-pointers, increasing her career total to 114. Althea Cox had held the school record since 1991 with 111.
Oklahoma State (10-5 Overall, 2-3 Big 12) will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 20, as the Cowgirls travel to Austin, Texas to face the Texas Longhorns. Texas Tech (16-1, 5-0) will host Iowa State on that date as well.
