STILLWATER, Okla. - Leah Wahlgren, a senior at Salina South High School in Salina, Kan., signed a National Letter of Intent with the Oklahoma State women's basketball program, it was announced today by the Cowgirl coaching staff.
A 5-7 point guard, Wahlgren was an all-state first-team member in Class 5A last season while leading her team to a runnerup finish in the state championship game. She averaged 15 points, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals per game her junior year. Wahlgren was also named as one of the top-15 all-staters, regardless of class.
"I felt really comfortable with the coaching staff at Oklahoma State," said Wahlgren. "The tradition at OSU was a factor (in her decision), and I really like the support the community gives to the athletic department and the University."
Salina South lost to the eventual state champion in Wahlgren's sophomore season, and finished third at the state tournament her freshman year.
"Leah is a kid that really understands the game of basketball," said OSU coach Dick Halterman. "Her dad's a coach, and so she's really grown up around basketball. She's a very tough player, who can shoot the three or penetrate. She's a born point guard, and is very comfortable in that role. She'll be a very good player for us."
Wahlgren chose Oklahoma State over Tulsa and Wichita State. She will be the only student-athlete to sign with the Cowgirls during the early signing period.
