ATHENS, Ga. - Oklahoma State's Pavel Kudrnac fell in the quarterfinal round of the 1998 NCAA Division I Tennis Championship today.
Top-seeded Kudrnac became the third straight top seed to not advance past the quarterfinal round with his 6-4, 6-4 loss to VCU's Daniel Andersson. The last time that a No. 1 seed claimed the singles title was in 1995 when Arizona State's Sargis Sargistan won the championship in 1995.
"It all depends on whether or not I hit more winners than errors. I missed too much. He just kept the ball in play and let me make mistakes," Kudrnac said. "I couldn't help but watch the match next to me (John Roddick and Robert Samuelsson) and it took away a little bit of concentration. It probably made me hit a few more errors."
Kudrnac ended the season with a 35-4 singles record. Earlier in the day, Kudrnac defeated Notre Dame's Ryan Sachire to advance to the quarterfinal round.
