OSU's Peterson Earns League's Weekly Honor

DALLAS - Oklahoma State senior Adrian Peterson played a key role in the Cowboys' two comeback victories last week. The guard scored 10 of his 20 points during a 16-5 run against SEMO and nine of his 24 during a 25-4 stretch against K-State and has been named the Phillips 66 Big 12 Player of the Week. Kansas State junior Tony Kitt averaged 13.0 rebounds and 9.5 points in the Wildcats' two contests last week. The forwards' best contest was in K-State's 67-63 win at St. Louis where he scored nine points with 16 rebounds. For the second time this season, Kitt has been named is the Phillips 66 Big 12 Rookie of the Week. Both honors are chosen by a panel of media observers who cover Big 12 men's basketball.
Player
Adrian Peterson, Oklahoma State, G, Sr., 6-4, N.Little Rock, Ark.-
Peterson played a key role in Oklahoma State's two come-from-behind
victories against Southeast Missouri State and Kansas State. In the
75-64 win against SEMO, Peterson scored 10 of his 20 points during a
16-5 run which put the Cowboys up for good in the contest. Peterson was
4-for-5 from three-point range against SEMO. Down 15 in the second half,
Peterson led an Oklahoma State charge by scoring nine points in a 25-4
run that led the Cowboys to a six-point lead in the 75-69 overtime win.
Peterson ended the K-State game with 24 points and nine rebounds.
Peterson has now scored 20 points or more in five straight games and in
nine of 12 contests this season. Said Oklahoma State head coach Eddie
Sutton, "Adrian has been playing well for us on both ends of the floor
but he's been able to make some key shots for us on the offensive end.
He's playing the way to make us a contender in the conference." Peterson
won the honor in a split vote over Kansas sophomore Eric Chenowith who
scored 25 points and had 17 rebounds in the 95-57 win against Texas A&M.
Rookie
Tony Kitt, Kansas State, F, Jr., 6-8, Charlotte, N.C. -
Kitt opened the
holiday break by registering 16 rebounds in the 67-63 win against St.
Louis in the Earth Grains Basketball Classic at the TWA Dome in St.
Louis, Mo. In the 75-69 overtime loss at Oklahoma State, Kitt scored 10
points on 5-of-6 shooting and pulled down 10 rebounds, marking his third
straight game with at least 10 boards. For the week he averaged 13.0
rebounds and 9.5 points. Kitt is averaging a double-double in leading
the Wildcats with 11.9 points and 10.4 rebounds per contest. His 16
rebounds against St. Louis marked the third time this season he has had
16 or more boards in a game. Kitt also earned Phillips 66 Big 12 Rookie
of the Week honors Dec. 1.
