Netters Fall to Top-Seeded California

TULSA, Okla. -- Oklahoma States Cowboy tennis team lost to 13th-ranked California in the finals of the NCAA Region V Championships today at the Harwell Tennis Courts.
Oklahoma State (17-6) jumped out to an early lead by claiming the doubles point. The Cowboys posted victories at the No. 1 and No. 3 positions. Second-ranked Pavel Kudrnac and Martin Dvoracek defeated junior Bobby Mahal and senior Minh Le in the tie-breaker 9-8 (7-2). Oklahoma State won at the No. 3 spot 8-1 and led 1-0 heading into singles play.
Oklahoma States only win came at No. 1 singles as 4th-ranked Kudrnac defeated Mahal 6-2, 6-4. Cals Le defeated Dvoracek to tie the match at 1-1. Daniel Russo lost to Cals David Sutton to give Cal a 2-1 advantage. The Bears took the lead for good by winning at the No. 5 position and sealed the victory as Cal freshman Adrian Barnes defeated Chris Bates 7-6 (7-4), 6-2.
