Men's Tennis to Open Regional Play

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Cowboy tennis team will open play in the 1998 Division I Men's Tennis Region V Championship on Saturday, May 16 after receiving a first-round bye.
Oklahoma State (16-5, 8-3 Big 12) is the second seed in the tournament and will face either third-seeded Tulsa or sixth-seeded Colorado Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at the Harwell Tennis Courts on the University of Tulsa campus. The championship match will be played Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
The tournament features six of the nation's top-50 teams. California (15-6) is the eighth-ranked team in the nation and will serve as the tournament's top seed. Although the Golden Bears are not a member of Region V, the NCAA sends the top-8 teams in the nation to each of the individual regions as the top-seed. Oklahoma State is ranked 26th nationally, Kansas is ranked 40th, Tulsa is ranked 45th, Oklahoma is ranked 46th, and Colorado is ranked 48th in the nation.
The winner of the tournament will advance to the NCAA Team Championships hosted by the University of Georgia in Athens, Ga. on May 23-26. The singles and doubles championships will also take place in Athens on May 27-31.
