STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Cowboy tennis team improved their Big 12 conference record to 7-2 as they defeated the Cornhuskers 7-0 Friday at the DuBois Tennis Center in Stillwater. Oklahoma State has swept its last two opponents, beating bedlam rival Oklahoma 6-0 on Tuesday.
"The guys played better today than they have (been playing). The scores were really good. We had one three-set match, but all of the other scores were pretty easy," head coach James Wadley said. "The match wasn't easy, but we won all of our games. So, we're playing our best right now. Hopefully, we can carry it on until Sunday and in to the Big 12 tournament."
Oklahoma State (16-3) won all three doubles matches, with the closest being between the tandem of Rob Howarth and Daniel Russo and Nebraska's Andrew Wiese and Joakim Larsson. Howarth and Russo were down by four games before coming back and winning eight straight games.
Top-ranked Pavel Kudrnac improved his record to 27-3 with a win over Dinko Verzi. The top-ranked tandem of Kudrnac and Martin Dvoracek also improved to 24-4 after defeating Verzi and Markus Bergerheim.
"Brad (Chiller) continues to win. He beat the guy (Mangus Grahn) that played No. 1 for Nebraska last year and went three sets with Pavel (Kudrnac) last year. Brad just beat him in three sets. So, all of the guys are contributing," Wadley said.
"Nebraska has a talented team. We're pretty pleased. We just hope that we can keep on a roll and keep this good weather and everybody continue to play well."
Oklahoma State will finish out its season with Colorado on Sunday at the DuBois Tennis Center. Match time is set for 2 p.m.
