Howell, Cowboys Finish Second at U.S. Collegiate

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. - Charles Howell recorded his second straight second-place finish and the eighth-ranked OSU men's golf team finished second at the U.S. Collegiate Championship on the Slammer & Squire Course at the World Golf Village.
Howell finished with at 5-under-par 211, just one stroke behind individual medalist D.J. Brigman. It was the fourth top-10 finish in as many spring tournaments for Howell, a freshman whose first-round 66 set a course record. Howell was joined in the top 10 by seventh-ranked teammate Edward Loar, who tied for ninth at 2-over.
Oklahoma State's final-round 290 tied for the best round Sunday but left the Cowboys eight strokes behind tournament champion Florida State. OSU finished one stroke ahead of top-ranked UNLV.
The Cowboys' individual lineup was rounded out by senior Bo Van Pelt, whose final-round 81 slid him to 29th place at 10-over; freshman Boyd Summerhays, 35th at 13-over; and sophomore Landry Mahan, 38th at 14-over.
The Cowboys will next be in action April 18 and 19 at the ASU Thunderbird Invitational in Tempe, Ariz.
