Howarth Falls in NCAA Tournament

ATHENS, Ga. - Cowboy tennis senior Rob Howarth ended his collegiate singles career today as he fell to Brian Vahaly of Virginia 6-1, 6-2 in the first round of the NCAA Tournament in Athens, Ga.
The loss ended a seven-match win streak for Howarth, ranked 97th in the nation. He ended the season with a 13-7 record in singles and was named to the 1999 All-Big 12 Conference team. He was also named to the Academic All-Big 12 team.
Howarth will team up with freshman Matt Prentice in doubles to take on Ed Carter and Jeff Williams of Arizona State Friday in the doubles bracket ofthe tournament. The tandem is ranked 36th nationally with a 12-6 overall record on the year. Match time has not yet been announced.
