COWGIRLS TRAVEL TO COLUMBIA
Oklahoma State (12-11 overall, 4-9 Big 12) travels to Columbia, Mo., this weekend to face the Missouri Tigers (10-13, 3-10) in the final road game of the season for OSU. Oklahoma State is coming off a 58-73 loss to the conference- leading Texas Tech Lady Raiders on Wednesday in Lubbock, while Mizzou is coming off a 59-64 loss to the Texas Longhorns. This will be the 38th meeting between these two schools, with MU holding a narrow 19-18 edge in the series.
LAST TIME
Texas Tech was once again too much for Oklahoma State to handle as the Lady Raiders defeated OSU, 73-58, in Lubbock, Texas. Renee Hanebutt hit five three pointers in the first half and Angie Braziel scored 18 in the second for the 15- point win. OSU was led by Jennifer Crow, who scored 16 points on 6-of-13 shooting. Thirty-three of the Cowgirls' 58 points came from the bench, as Jessica Spinner chipped in 10 points and Jessica Bates added eight. Oklahoma State shot 41.8 percent from the floor, while TTU shot 48.3 percent. OSU hit five three pointers, including two each by Crow and Spinner. Kourtney Bower had five assists in the game.
COMING UP
Oklahoma State returns home for the final two games of the regular season next week before heading to the Big 12 Tournament. The Cowgirls will host Kansas on Wednesday night, and then finish the season with Nebraska in Gallagher-Iba Arena on Saturday. Both games tip off at 7 p.m.
OSU STAFF SELECTED TO COACH BIG 12 ALL-STARS
Oklahoma State's coaching staff has been chosen to coach the Big 12 Select team next season. The team of 12 all-stars will travel to Denmark and Sweden for two weeks during the month of August. Coach Dick Halterman and his staff will consult with other coaches in the conference and determine which players will be taken at a later date.
CROW REACHES MILESTONE
Junior Jennifer Crow has reached a couple of milestones this season, including the 1,000-point plateau. On a three pointer vs. Iowa State, she became the 14th player in Cowgirl history to score 1,000 points in a career. Jennifer became the all-time three-point leader in OSU history when she hit her 112th trey vs. Texas Tech (not in a game, that would be a record). She leads the team in scoring, averaging 16.7 points per game, and also leads the team in three-pointers made with 39. She is second on the team in free throw percentage, and her 132 free- throws made lead the Big 12 Conference. Jennifer has scored in double figures in 56 of her 81 career games, and has scored at least 20 points in 14 games. Jennifer recorded the second double-double of her career with 19 points and 11 rebounds vs. Stephen F. Austin. Jennifer was named the MVP of the Jackson Diamond Jewelers' Cowgirl Classic, and was named to the all-tournament team of the Beach Classic.
HARMON WELL BALANCED
Cowgirl senior Nikki Harmon has become one of the most well-rounded player in school history. Much like her predecessor Renee Roberts, Harmon is very well- balanced in her game. She is averaging 9.1 points and 5.2 rebounds per game. She is also averaging 3.9 assists per game from her small forward position, including a career-high 10 vs. Vanderbilt. Nikki leads the team in free-throw shooting, connecting on 48-of-58 shots from the line this year. She made 25 consecutive free throws before a miss vs. Texas A&M broke the string. The school record is 28. Nikki was named to the all-tournament team of the Jackson Diamond Jewelers' Cowgirl Classic, hosted by Oklahoma State.
JOHNSON GETS START
Reba Johnson became the third Cowgirl this season to start at center when she was on the floor for the opening tip vs. Baylor. She also started vs. Oklahoma and Texas, and has pulled down 17 rebounds in the four starts. Reba has just three turnovers in those four games.
GREGG'S SHOOTING TOUCH RETURNS
Cowgirl senior Megan Gregg returned to the starting lineup after coming off the bench four games, and responded with a 12-point perfromance on 6-of-8 shooting vs. Baylor. Her season shooting average is currently 55.8 percent, and she is shooting 57 percent for her career. Megan had the best shooting percentage for a junior in school history last year, and her 58.6 percent was the second-best all-time at OSU.
FRESHMEN STEPPING UP
Although they aren't truly freshmen this season, the duo of Mandy Stuber and Jessica Spinner, both redshirt freshmen, have stepped up their game this season. The two are combining to average nearly 20 minutes per game, 7.8 points each contest and have connected on 19 three pointers. Stuber has spent time playing point guard, shooting guard and post, while Spinner has been primarily a shooting guard.
YOUTH MOVEMENT
Eight of the 13 players seeing significant playing time this season for Oklahoma State are either freshmen or sophomores. When you add in Jennifer Crow, the only junior on the team, those nine players make up 64 percent of OSU's scoring this season. Looking down the road, OSU will have just one senior next season, and just three juniors. Coleman Smith and Kara Faulk are the first true freshmen to start since Jennifer Crow and Sara Jackson in 1996-97, and Smith's five starts are the most since Renee Roberts had five in 1994-95. The last true freshman that was a consistent starter was Cheri Edwards, who started 26 games in 1993- 94.
