Cowgirls Pull Off Win at WNIT

STILLWATER, Okla. - Oklahoma State's Cowgirl basketball team used balanced scoring and excelled on the boards as OSU defeated Rice, 75-52, before 1,427 fans in Gallagher-Iba Arena here Sunday afternoon in a Women's NIT first-round game.
"Our three seniors came out tonight and showed that if they were going to play, they were going to play at full speed," said OSU Coach Dick Halterman. "Our effort was as good as it has been all year."
Senior Renee Roberts scored 15 points, while Cheri Edwards and Jennifer Crow each scored 14. Oklahoma State outrebounded the Owls, 52-29, including 12-6 on the offensive end.
OSU has now had seven 20-win seasons in Coach Dick Halterman's tenure.
Oklahoma State led by as many as 15 in the first half and settled for a 36-25 halftime lead. Rice made several runs in the second half, and after being down by as many as 20, the Owls cut the OSU lead to seven at 55-48 with 6:05 left to play. But, the Cowgirls scored eight unanswered points over the next three minutes to pull away from Rice.
Oklahoma State dominated the boards, with four players pulling down at least seven rebounds. Sara Jackson, OSU's point guard, grabbed a career-high 10 boards. Devon Magness, OSU's 6-7 freshman center, even hit a three-point shot with two seconds left on the clock.
"Rice really puts a lot of pressure on you," said Halterman. "We missed some shots and we didn't hit our free throws until down the stretch, but we hit them when we had to. We hit some perimeter shots late in the game."
Oklahoma State (20-10) will play either Baylor (17-11) or Mississippi State (14- 14) on Tuesday night. If Baylor wins, OSU will travel to Waco, Texas. If MSU wins, the Bulldogs will travel to Stillwater for the game.
