LAST TIME
Oklahoma State shot just 34 percent from the floor for the game,
including a dismal 25 percent in the second half, as the Cowgirls lost
to bedlam-rival Oklahoma, 74-58, Wednesday night at the Lloyd Noble
Center in Norman. OSU had just two players score in double figures, with
Devon Magness picking up 11 points and Jennifer Crow adding 10. Megan
Gregg led all players with eight rebounds. Sooner freshman LaNeisha
Caufield led all scorers with 23 points, most on fast breaks for OU. The
Cowgirls did connect on 23-of-30 free throws, but allowed the Sooners to
score on 24-of-48 shots from the floor, good for 50 percent. Oklahoma
State also got outrebounded, 35-30. It was OSU's first loss to Oklahoma
in four years.
COMING UP
Oklahoma State spends the next two games on the
road as the Cowgirls travel to Austin, Texas to face the Texas Longhorns
on Wednesday, Jan. 20, at 7 p.m. in the Erwin Events Center. On
Saturday, Jan. 23, OSU will travel to College Station, Texas, to face
the Texas A&M Lady Aggies. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. in the new Reed
Arena.
COWGIRL NOTE-ABLE
Senior Nikki Harmon leads the Big 12 and is
second in the NCAA in free-throw percentage this season, shooting 91.7
percent ... Senior guard Kourtney Bower is second in the Big 12
Conference with a 2.32 assists-to-turnover ratio ... Oklahoma State
leads the league and is second in the country in free-throw percentage,
making 78.0 percent of its shots from the line ... Harmon's 4.64 assists
per game is the sixth-best in the league ... Megan Gregg 57.7 percent
shooting from the floor leads the team ... Several of OSU's current
players have moved up the Cowgirl career charts this season. Jennifer
Crow, in her third year in an OSU uniform, is tied for the all-time most
three-pointers made in school history with 111. She needs just one more
to own the OSU career record. She is also sixth on the free-throws made
list with 315. Bower ranks 11th on the career three-pointers made list
with 47, and sophomore Devon Magness is already 11th on the career
blocked-shots list with 37 ... OSU leads the league in two other
statistical categories, inlcuding field-goal percentage defense and
three-point percentage defense. The 36.2 percentage allowed is the
10th-lowest in the country.
CROW NEARING MILESTONE
Junior Jennifer Crow is currently 86 points
shy of the 1,000 mark in her career. She already has 233 this season in
14 games and, on her current pace, would break the barrier sometime in
early February. She leads the team in scoring, averaging 16.6 points per
game, and also leads the team in three-pointers made with 21. She is
second on the team in free throw percentage, and her 86 FTs made lead
the Big 12 Conference. Jennifer has scored in double figures in 49 of
her 72 career games, and has scored at least 20 points in 10 games.
Jennifer recorded the second double-double of her career with 19 points
and 11 rebounds vs. Stephen F. Austin. Jennifer was named the MVP of the
Jackson Diamond Jewelers' Cowgirl Classic, and was named to the
all-tournament team of the Beach Classic.
HARMON WELL BALANCED
Cowgirl senior Nikki Harmon was expected
to be a scoring threat this season, but she has improved her game in all
aspects for her senior year. Harmon is averaging 9.3 points and 4.8
rebounds per game. She is also averaging 4.6 assists per game from her
small forward position, including a career-high 10 vs. Vanderbilt. Nikki
leads the team and the Big 12 Conference in free-throw shooting,
connecting on 44-of-48 shots from the line this year. She made 25
consecutive free throws before a miss vs. Texas A&M broke the string.
The school record is 28. Nikki was named to the all-tournament team of
the Jackson Diamond Jewelers' Cowgirl Classic, hosted by Oklahoma State.
GREGG CONTINUES SHOOTING TOUCH
Cowgirl senior Megan Gregg
continues to shoot the ball well this season, as proven by her 57.7
percent shooting from the floor. She has connected on 60-of- 104 of her
shots from the field. Megan set a school record for juniors last season
with her 58.6 shooting percentage. It was also the second-highest
percentage in OSU history. Her current 59.2 career FG percentage is the
best- ever at Oklahoma State. Megan was named to the all-tournament team
of the Bertha Teague Memorial Classic.
FAULK SHOWS WHAT FRESHMEN CAN DO
True freshman Kara Faulk
continues to impress the coaching staff, as can be seen by her 15
minutes averaged per game as a true freshman. She is fifth on the team
in scoring, averaging 5.7 points per game, and is sixth on the squad
with 3.9 rebounds per game. Kara recorded her first-ever double-double
with 10 points and 11 rebounds vs. Northwestern State in the Jackson
Diamond Jewelers' Cowgirl Classic.
SMITH GETS DESERVED PLAYING TIME
True freshman Coleman Smith
spent 29 minutes on the floor last Saturday afternoon vs. Baylor, thanks
to some fine play on both the offensive and defensive ends of the court.
Coleman not only scored 10 points in the Cowgirls' four-point victory,
but she also limited Baylor's trio of forwards to just five points for
the game, 13 points below their combined season average. For her
efforts, Smith was nominated by OSU for the Big 12 Conference's
Rookie-of-the- Week honor.
STUBER COMING INTO OWN
Redshirt freshman Mandy Stuber has
shown what she's capable of doing, despite her limited playing time. In
just nine minutes per game, she is averaging 3.5 points and 2.0 rebounds
per game. She has eight assists, five blocks and eight steals in 12
games. The 6-2 guard has the ability to play any of the five positions,
and is able to post up or shoot the three pointer.
