WACO, Texas - Oklahoma State's Jennifer Crow had 22 points and Kourtney Bower dished out a career-high nine assists as the Cowgirls defeated the Baylor Bears, 58-56, here Saturday afternoon and secured a season sweep of BU. It was the first win ever for OSU in Waco and the third win of the season for the Cowgirls on television.
Megan Gregg added 12 points for Oklahoma State and Nikki Harmon chipped in 10 as OSU won for just the fourth time in 10 conference games. Baylor dropped to 4-6 and a tie with the Cowgirls in the Big 12 standings.
Oklahoma State led, 37-32 at halftime, its largest lead of the first period. The Cowgirls increased the margin to 10 by scoring the first five points of the second half. Baylor would not go away, though, and went on a 14-3 run to take a 46-45 lead with 10:29 remaining in the game. There were five lead changes after that, the last being a free throw by Crow that put OSU up by one with 1:06 remaining.
Baylor had a chance to take the lead again with the ball and 45 seconds to go in regulation. But, Crow picked off a pass intended for Toya Ellis at midcourt and was intentionally fouled going for the layup. Crow missed the first, but hit the second. As a result of the foul, Oklahoma State got the ball back, and took a good shot that bounced off the rim with 10 seconds to go.
BU got the ball and drove the length of the court, but missed a shot and OSU's Reba Johnson pulled down the rebound as time expired.
Oklahoma State (12-8 overall, 4-6 Big 12) will host bedlam-rival Oklahoma (9-10, 3-6 prior to Saturday night's game with Texas A&M) on Wednesday, Feb. 10, at 7 p.m. in Gallagher-Iba Arena.
